During the ceremony, the mayor pointed out that “this championship has a strong penetration capacity worldwide and this will allow the Andalusia destination to be promoted. The Andalusia brand is known all over the world”. As far as women’s sport is concerned, he emphasized the importance of its dissemination, as well as the economic impact it will have.
“Golf is the ideal complement in destinations like Andalusia, Cadiz and Chiclana. In Chiclana we have a model that works great, because when the high season is over we are framing ourselves to make the most of the 21 golf courses in the province or the five in Chiclana. The golf tourist has an average stay of about four days longer than the average conventional tourist. Their daily expenditure triples, thus exceeding 300 euros and having an expenditure per stay that exceeds 3,000 euros, with a considerable impact. Golf generates a direct economic impact of some 4,600 million euros,” said José María Román.
“The golf courses work with reclaimed water, always bearing in mind sustainability, with a seal of approval, such as the Ibertostar brand, which has an important concern for sustainability”, said the mayor, who also highlighted that “golf tourists usually come back and often end up having their own residence here, which also boosts the real estate market”.
“Our tourism model includes the national tourist in a notorious way, which is ideally complemented by the low season tourist, as is the German tourist, which has made the full city has awarded the key to the city to the German people, in recognition of what has generated, generates and will generate in the tourism economy in Chiclana,” concluded José María Román.
In addition, Rafael Hernandez explained that “it is the first time it will come to Andalusia and it will do so in 2023. It is of maximum importance for what represents the golf sector in Andalusia, with more than 680,000 players we receive from all over Europe annually and with more than 700 million euros in wealth generation for the region.” “This competition will mean that women’s golf will make an equitable leap in the golf sector. That is why we want to make the Solheim known throughout Spain, because it is a milestone for the country.”
Die Maier thanked the support of the Mayor’s Office and the Golf Club “that I am receiving as ambassador of the Solheim, because it is a very important event in terms of sports and tourism. The team is made up of German, Finnish, Swedish, Danish, French and Spanish players, so the level of promotion and diffusion is very wide”.
On the other hand, it should be noted that the last edition held in Europe, specifically in the United Kingdom, was attended by more than 90,000 spectators from all over the world, while the 2021 edition held in Ohio was attended by more than 130,000 people. It should also be noted that seven Spanish golfers have defended the colors of Europe throughout the history of the competition.
