Spanish Championship for Children, Alevín and Benjamín leaves the first names of its own

The tournament has started in Cadiz with five rounds under par and an unbeatable atmosphere.

The party has already started, but the best is yet to come. The 2023 edition of the Spanish Children’s, Alevín and Benjamín Championships has kicked off at the Real Novo Sancti Petri and El Campano courses in Cadiz with exceptional weather, five rounds under par and an unbeatable atmosphere on both courses. Make a note of these names, just in case we see them on these lines on Thursday: Luis del Rosal, Sofía Gamilla, Oliver de Wint, Liz Hao, Ángel Revuelta, Enzo Jiménez, Candela Visus,…

Video summary and statements 1st day

CHILDREN: Seniors start under par

The first to finish were the boys in the junior category, and they did so with phenomenal results. Three rounds under par, two of them from the house, Andalusian. They were those of Luis del Rosal and Samuel Love, a boy who already knows what it is to do important things in this tournament; he was third as Benjamin in 2019.

The fact is that both Luis del Rosal and Samuel Love lead with 70 strokes (-2). The former, a golfer from La Cañada who has a spectacular tee-to-green game, had four birdies between the 11th and 16th holes. “Putting is not my strong point, but today it worked quite well,” he said at the clubhouse. The Valencian Juan Miró, another golfer with good experience in the tournament (he was champion of Spain in 2021), is third with -1.

Then came the girls with their test, and in it, an exceptional game, which gave us the Madrid Liz Hao and Andrea Revuelta, and the Leonese Cristina Garcia. The first two (with illustrious surnames that have given great joy to Spanish golf) closed the day under par (-1) on a roller coaster of emotions, especially in the case of Liz.

Cristina García did not finish under par, mainly because on her penultimate hole her ball ended up on top of a tree. Golf stuff. In any case, her game deserved all the praise.

ALEVINES: Sofía Gamilla continues on the winning path of 2022

As in the case of the children, the boys also finished their day in the morning shift in the fry category. Oliver de Wint from Malaga and Jorge de la Riva from A Coruña, who started with rounds of 74 strokes (+2) and with a common virtue: they managed to reduce the number of bogeys to three in a demanding course.

The golfer from La Zapateira is a great kicker, that is his virtue, and in the Centro de Novo Sancti Petri course he has proved it. The third place with a creditable +3 is for the Asturian Guillermo Alonso, very fine at the time of executing a trio of birdies.

The fry, meanwhile, came out in the afternoon and provided a competition in which a name stood out above the rest. A name, moreover, already known to all, that of the Andalusian of La Cañada Sofia Gamilla. Her 73 strokes (+1) gave her the lead with a very juicy advantage of six strokes over Irene Lavilla (+7). Martina Cerrillo, with +8, is the third classified.

It is worth remembering that Sofía Gamilla not only won last year’s junior event, but also proved to be an extraordinary kicker. That same virtue has been demonstrated this Tuesday, although she was not the only one; she saved a couple with a shot of about a hundred meters.

BENJAMIN: Enzo Jimenez and Candela Visus, the best among the smallest

And as every year, to find the broadest smiles of the tournament you have to go to see the hundred or so youngest players who bring an unparalleled color. They all play at the Campano Golf Club, just ten minutes away from the older ones. Enzo Jiménez, from Castilla y León, with +2 after his regulation nine holes, and Candela Visus, from Valencia, with a +3, have been the signatories of the best results.

Enzo Jiménez from Soria was the first protagonist of the morning in Chiclana. At ten years old he is very long, and that virtue has helped him to stand out in a very good level test; not in vain there are the +4 of Tito Serra, Francisco Esclápez and Jaime de Wint (what a saga comes from Malaga!).

Enzo Jimenez himself, brimming with happiness, told the secret of his successful return to the clubhouse: “everything went well, it was one of those days. My father always tells me that par is always a good result, and that’s what I tried to do today.

Meanwhile, Candela Visus has beaten by one stroke the Andalusian Cornelia Bermudo and Daniela Lozano from Madrid, both with +4. These three small figures managed to hunt the most precious thing in the tournament, a birdie.

To culminate a first day full of emotions, the boys and girls of the category enjoyed a drive + putt contest in Novo Sancti Petri. Anyone would have thought they had played a few hours earlier; their desire to golf overcame any signs of fatigue. It was the perfect end to a perfect day for any little golfer.
