The competition, in which 156 athletes from more than twenty countries will participate, will be held in Chiclana from June 6 to 9.
The province is once again the chosen venue for a top-level sporting event, the Cadiz 2024 Golf Challenge Tour, which will be held from June 6 to 9 at the Iberostar Real Club de Golf Novo Sancti Petri in Chiclana.

The Diputación de Cádiz has hosted the presentation of this test, in a ceremony attended by the second vice president and head of the Sports Service of the Diputación de Cádiz, Javier Vidal; Tania Barcelona, territorial delegate of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía in Cádiz; Ana María González Bueno, first deputy mayor of the City of Chiclana; Pablo Mansilla, president of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation; Rafael Hernández Alcalá, manager of Iberostar Real Club de Golf Novo Sancti Petri; and Javier Gervás, general manager of JGolf.
Vidal pointed out that the commitment of the Provincial Council for sport is non-negotiable, both at the grassroots level, in the most varied disciplines, as regards top-level competitions. In the specific case of the Challenge of Cadiz, the second vice president of the council recalled that this is an opportunity to strengthen the image of the province as a tourist destination for sports 365 days a year.
Javier Vidal thanked the collaborative work done in this sector by public institutions together with sports federations and companies, “which means that every day more people want to come and enjoy our province”.
In that line has insisted the territorial delegate of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Board in Cadiz, Tania Barcelona, who has provided some data that give good account of the importance of the practice of golf and its effect on tourism for the province. Barcelona has referred to the quality of the more than twenty golf courses in the province of Cadiz, both in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Facilities, he said, respectful of the environment, sustainability and efficient management of resources.
Among the figures that demonstrate the power of the sector, the delegate explained that more than 180,000 visitors come to Cadiz every year to play golf, 65% of international origin. Each of these visitors stay 9 days on average in the province and the degree of loyalty of the same is very important. Their average expenditure exceeds 300 euros per day and it is a segment that generates about a thousand direct and indirect jobs. With all this, the overall economic impact of golf in the province amounts to more than 800 million euros, being Cadiz leader in the country in this sport and tourism segment.
Pablo Mansilla has highlighted the importance of collaboration between institutions that agree to carry out projects such as the Challenge of Cadiz, a tournament of the second international division but attended by great golfers of the first division, and in which the players of the Pro Spain Team of the RFEG have the opportunity to learn to compete and jump to the first division, as we have shown that in Spain we have world-class players.
Ana María González Bueno, first deputy mayor of the City of Chiclana, said that for the town this tournament is “very important”, because it is a showcase that projects the image of Chiclana worldwide. In addition, it is presented as “a sporting attraction that combines nature, leisure, sustainability and has a great impact on the economy and employment”.
As explained Javier Gervás, as responsible for the organization of the Cadiz Challenge, this time there will be 156 professional players from more than twenty countries aspiring to the title of this competition belonging to the Challenge circuit of the European Tour -considered the second international division of golf- and scoring for the world ranking that will have great media relevance and in which 8 of the top 10 of the ranking of the Challenge Tour will participate.
Professionals who, as Rafael Hernández Alcalá assures, on the Iberostar Real Club de Golf Novo Sanci Petri course got the card to play the Tour, such as Santiago Tarrío and Pep Anglés and “we hope that this streak continues and from here they make the leap to the DP World Tour”. And he highlighted the great effort made by the maintenance team to present the course better than ever.
This Tuesday the players will begin with official training sessions, and after the Pro-Am competition on Wednesday, June 5, the official competition will begin on Thursday, June 6, and will conclude with the final day on Sunday, June 9.
It will be played 72 holes Stroke Play, in consecutive rounds of 18 holes per day. After the first 36 holes have been played, the first 60 classified players will continue in the tournament and will compete for the final victory. The winner will succeed Pep Angles (winner in 2020), Kristof Ulenaers (2021) and Sam Hutsby (last champion in the 2023 edition).
The Challenge de Cádiz will bring a wide diffusion of the image of the province of Cádiz as a tourist destination, and in particular for the practice of sports, thanks to a wide media exposure of the event, which will have a 26-minute program on Movistar + Golf, with a premiere and four multi-diffusions that will be broadcast in more than 200 million homes and 50 countries around the world.
