Real Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club’s Royal Status and Outstanding History
The Real Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club is not only a first class golf course, but a symbol of the growth and prestige of golf in Spain. Designed by the great Severiano BallesterosIt opened its doors in 1990 and since then has grown to become one of the most recognized destinations on the Costa de la Luz. Its history, marked by Seve’s unique design, its steady growth and the recognition of the Royal House in 2016, place it as a true icon of European golf.
Over the years, the club has hosted professional competitions, has promoted tourism and sports development in the area and has established itself as a place that combines tradition, modernity and excellence.
The beginnings of a historical field

The vision of Severiano Ballesteros
When the course was inaugurated in May 1990, it became Seve’s first design in Spain. The Cantabrian, winner of five majors and one of the great ambassadors of European golf, embodied in Novo Sancti Petri his playing philosophy: a course designed to be enjoyed by everyone, from beginners to professional players.
The first stage of growth
The initial course had 27 holes. From the beginning, the project aroused interest in the golf world thanks to its location in front of La Barrosa Beach, one of the most spectacular beaches in Cadiz, and to the audacity of the design, which combined technique, strategy and an incomparable natural environment.
The official inauguration
In December 1990, the opening of the clubhouse was celebrated in the presence of H.R.H. Don Juan de Borbón, a historic moment that marked the beginning of a trajectory that has continued to grow in prestige.
Expansion to 36 holes
Two par 72 courses
In 2000, the club expanded its course with nine additional holes, reaching the current 36 holes divided into two main courses:
- Mar y Pinos (A): a course that combines stretches with sea views and areas surrounded by pine forests, offering variety and unique landscapes.
- Center (B): a more technical course, with strategic holes that require precision and control of the short game.
A complete experience for everyone
The expansion allowed the club to accommodate both major competitions and amateurs looking for a varied experience. With five tees per hole, the courses are suitable for any level of player, a feature that reinforces Seve’s inclusive philosophy.
The title of “Real” in 2016

Prestigious recognition
On May 12, 2016, the club officially received the title of “Royal” granted by the Royal Household. This recognition is granted only to those sports institutions that stand out for their history, contribution to sport and international relevance.
What it means to be “Real”
Becoming “Royal” means entering a very select circle within Spanish golf. Very few clubs in Spain have this honor, and for Novo Sancti Petri it meant an endorsement of more than two decades of work in favor of golf and sports tourism in Andalusia.
Strengthened international projection
Since winning the title, the club has further enhanced its international image, attracting golfers from all over Europe looking to play a course that combines history, quality and official recognition.
A club with prestige and excellence
Reference facilities in Europe
Real Novo Sancti Petri has one of the most complete practice areas on the continent, with more than 130 training stations, a 300-meter driving range, putting and chipping areas, and a par 3 course ideal for beginners and for training professionals.
An integrated resort
The proximity to hotels such as the Iberostar Royal Andalus and the Andalucía Playa allows you to enjoy a “stay & play” concept, where golf and accommodation are combined in the same resort. This synergy has made the club an ideal golf vacation destination.
A legacy that inspires
Beyond its facilities, Real Novo Sancti Petri conveys Seve’s legacy on every hole: a demanding but fair course, strategic but accessible, beautiful and full of character.
Host of major tournaments

Challenge Tour and professional competitions
The club has been the scene of important international competitions, such as the Cadiz Challenge and the Challenge of Spain, part of the European Challenge Tour. These tournaments have allowed professional players from all over the world to play a first class course.
Amateur and school golf
In addition to professional tournaments, the club encourages amateur practice with social competitions, internal leagues and training programs that reinforce its role as a sports engine in the province of Cadiz.
