Karsten Ginge, Green2Green guide gives us his impressions of Real Novo Sancti Petri

“The Atlantic coast is not as well known as the neighboring Costa del Sol, but here we find a place that satisfies all the senses.

On the terrace of the clubhouse the air is filled with voices, a mixture of German, English, Swedish and of course Spanish, talking about the rounds of golf they all played.

We are located in Real Novo Sancti Petri, golf club near Cadiz, Atlantic coast. Together

with us were G2G long stay clients, staying for 4 weeks, drinking beer on the terrace. This place has become a Danish favorite. The Nordic countries, mainly Denmark and Sweden, have actually taken over the place. And the Germans also like the place.

The resort has more than 80,000 rounds annually.

There are two 18-hole courses. The hotel and golf package is offered, and year after year customers return. It is the Spanish hotel chain Iberostar, which owns the golf course as well as the two hotels located on the beach a few hundred meters from the clubhouse. We arrived a little late for the season, and therefore only Iberostar Royal Andalus is open. The rooms are bright and beautiful, and from most of them you can see and hear the sea. The buffet breaks boundaries, the food is something completely different, and while I’m generally not a big fan of buffets, at Royal Andalus it becomes the concept taken to an extraordinary level.

On my first night I was shown the buffet, a tour that takes more than ten minutes; the selection is huge. There are countless chef stations, for example, pasta, fish, meat, a variety of salads and desserts. Every night there is a new theme that can be seafood, Mexican or Italian or something completely different. The hotel is the starting point; four stars, but the buffet exceeds this category, everything is so delicious and presented in a very attractive way. You could easily spend all week just eating, sitting on one of the two huge terraces and listening to the waves crashing on the beach.

The golf course was one of the legendary Severiano Ballesteros’ first golf courses .

designed and when it was inaugurated in 1990, it happened with the help of the current

grandfather of the King of Spain. That is also the reason why the club can put the name “royal” in front of its name. At the inauguration 27 holes were built, in 2000 nine more were added, so now there are two full 18-hole courses, Mar y Pinos and Centro (A and B.).

Course A is the championship course where important tournaments have been held in recent years, including the Challenge Tour several years in a row.

The course is a bit different from the ones we know from the Costa del Sol where the golf courses are usually very hilly and for most people it would be impossible to play on it.

play a round without a buggy. In Novo Sancti Petri you can get a buggy, but you can

is not necessary. Both courses are quite flat, and with a 3-wheeled trolley for 3 € the round is played without problem. The A course lives up to its name Mar y Pino, passing by the beach and a pine forest. It is divided into two parts, the first nine holes are very open and have a lot of water. Hole 6 is undoubtedly the most photographed with an incomparable view of the wide beach of Barossa with eight kilometers long. The first 9 holes are quite open. We are playing with a lot of wind today, although the locals say it is not really that strong.

The second part, holes 10 – 18, starts next to the driving range. Now the course changes completely with the difficulty of encountering many pine trees.

The end of the course is brutal. The last three holes are long and extremely difficult. They are narrow and there are trees everywhere.

Right next to the 18th green there is a cozy, Andalusian-style restaurant where you can quench your thirst after the tour.

The B course is a little more accessible and uniform and generally preferred by players with higher handicaps. It is a course with obstacles

composed mainly of lakes, fast fairways and undulating greens.

On the 18th hole is Ballesteros’ characteristic S-shaped bunker.

Both courses are designed with the clear stamp of Severiano Ballesteros. The B course is defined by offering both spacious and narrow areas, the greens are very protected; long fairways, large and sometimes elevated greens require more technique, strategy and precision than strength and length in the strokes.

The large terrace of the clubhouse invites you to have a refreshment after the round.

Both the hotel and the golf courses offer an excellent experience.

I’m going home after a week. I am quite envious of the large group of Danes who are staying for three weeks. It’s clear to me that I have to return at some point to this wonderful place.”

We would like to publicly thank you for these words that make the hard work of the day to day is rewarded by such a pleasant review.
