Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen held his nerve to secure victory in the Cadiz Challenge, joining his father in the Challenge Tour winner’s circle.

Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen keeps his cool to secure victory in Challenge de Cádiz

The Dane signed a round of three under par (69) to reach a total of 15 under par for the week, securing a one-stroke victory over Ireland’s Gary Hurley on a dramatic final day at Iberostar Real Golf Novo Sancti Petri.

The 2016 Junior Ryder Cup player got off to a slow start on the final day with a bogey on the first hole, but recovered with three birdies to complete the first half of the round at two under par. He added another birdie on the 11th hole before keeping his cool and closing his round with no additional errors, securing his first Challenge Tour victory in Cadiz.

The 26-year-old is the son of former Challenge Tour winner Jacob Rasmussen, who won the RCG Tournament in Seville in 1993. Jonathan expressed his joy for succeeding in the same country as his father.

“I feel amazing right now. It’s been a long day and I was very nervous, so I’m relieved to have made it. I felt the pressure on the last three holes because they were very difficult and the greens were firm,” commented Gøth-Rasmussen. “I was aggressive off the tee all day, but I still had to rely on my short game to get out of trouble at times.”

“I saw Gary Hurley was having a great round and they kept me informed, which added to the pressure. I was sweating until I saw the final putt drop, and it was very exciting. I’m proud to get my first Challenge Tour win. It’s great to emulate my dad and it’s amazing to now have two Challenge Tour winners in the family. I’ve been coming to southern Spain all my life for family vacations and I love this part of the world. I love the golf courses and it’s so nice to win here.”

“This is definitely the biggest accomplishment of my career so far. Getting my DP World Tour card at Qualifying School was pretty special, but this definitely tops it. I’m going to fly home tonight and celebrate with a few beers tomorrow.”

Sweden’s Christofer Rahm and South Africa’s Deon Germishuys finished tied for third place at 12 under par, while Sweden’s Christofer Blomstrand, Spain’s David Borda and France’s Pierre Pineau and Alexander Levy were one stroke back in fifth place.

Gøth-Rasmussen moves up 95 places to 16th in the Road to Mallorca Ranking with 358 points. Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen remains in first place with 1,043 points, while John Parry is 401 points behind in second place.

The Road to Mallorca now heads to the Czech Republic for the Kaskáda Golf Challenge, which will be held at the Kaskáda Golf Resort from June 13-16, 2024.

Congratulations to all participants and especially to our champion, Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen, for his outstanding performance at the Iberostar Real Golf Novo Sancti Petri!
